It is with great pride that we gather here today to present the “Open Data Hub Contributor of the Year” Award 2026.
This recognition honours not only individual excellence, but the shared commitment to openness, collaboration and innovation that defines the Open Data Hub ecosystem. It celebrates those who transform data into opportunity — who make Open Data Hub not just accessible, but truly usable, meaningful and impactful.
At its core, Open Data Hub enables the development of digital solutions based on real data — bridging the gap between data providers and data consumers through high-quality, machine-readable and well-documented APIs. But beyond technology, it is people who make this ecosystem thrive. This year’s recipient embodies exactly that spirit.
Through his work at the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen, he has brought Open Data Hub directly into the academic world — not as a theoretical concept, but as a hands-on experience.
In his master-level courses, students don’t just learn about technologies — they apply them in real-world scenarios. They build web components, experiment with APIs and most importantly, work with real data in environments that reflect how companies actually operate. This approach creates a powerful shift: students move beyond abstract exercises and engage with real challenges, real datasets and real impact. But there is more.
By integrating Open Data Hub into his teaching, he has created a direct connection between students and the community. His students are not isolated learners — they are contributors. They present their work, receive feedback and engage with a broader ecosystem of developers, researchers, companies and startups.
Through his work, he enables students to work with real data, build real solutions, and make a real contribution to the Open Data Hub ecosystem. And now, it is my great honour and privilege to announce that the Open Data Hub Contributor of the Year 2026 is…
