Dynamic traffic management using real-time data

Bolzano is an attractive destination for tourists. During peak periods, pressure on the city’s parking system increases rapidly, which has a direct impact on traffic flow and quality of life in the city centre. The Municipality of Bolzano needed a simple yet effective tool to monitor car park occupancy in real time and implement traffic management measures promptly.

A smart dashboard for traffic management

To address this issue, the Municipality of Bolzano collaborated with Open Data Hub to develop an effective and user-friendly tool for real-time monitoring of city car parks. The result is an advanced web component developed by Open Data Hub for visualising parking data. It displays real-time parking availability, including the number of free spaces and occupancy percentage for each car park. Thanks to the clear and intuitive display of data, control centre operators can easily monitor the situation in car parks and implement traffic management measures when capacity is running low.

The Open Data Hub turns parking data into a practical operational tool. Thanks to real-time visualisation, the Bolzano Mobility Office can immediately monitor the parking situation and swiftly implement traffic management measures when the city reaches maximum capacity. The introduction of the dashboard has enabled the Municipality of Bolzano to improve traffic management during peak periods, reduce congestion in central areas, and support the work of the municipal police with a practical and responsive tool. It is a concrete example of how open data can be transformed into swift and effective urban mobility decisions.
